The Heart Behind the Kernels

Dorothy Annette Jones, better known as "Nana D," was the kind of woman you never forgot once you met her. Born on September 21, 1952, the youngest of nine siblings, Nana D was a burst of creativity and kindness wrapped up in one unforgettable spirit. She was a proud mom to two daughters and a loving grandmother to four grandchildren — but in truth, she mothered just about anyone who needed it.

She loved to bake, cook, and whip up recipes from scratch, always adding her own little twist to make everything taste just right. One of her all-time favorite snacks? Popcorn every flavor, every way. Spicy, sweet, cheesy she loved it all.

Even as she faced her own health challenges, She would give her last dollar, her last hug, or her last piece of advice to anyone in need.

When she passed away on November 21, 2022, her family knew her legacy of love and generosity had to live on. That’s how Nana D’s Spicy Kernels was born — a brand with heart, flavor, and purpose. Every bag is made in her memory, and a portion of every sale is donated to help families with loved ones in hospice care, just as she would have wanted.

Nana D showed us that life really is mo' betta when you give, love, and share and we’re honored to keep her beautiful spirit popping strong.
